"There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad preparation!" How to dress in 35 degrees or under

From about 35 degrees and below, it starts to get important to dress for the weather, particularly when you plan to spend more than 30 minutes outside. Unless you are okay with shivering the whole time!

Here are some important tips on how to make sure you are reasonably comfortable for 35 degree days you know you are going to be outside. It's all about the layers!

From the bottom up!

Warm socks! Cotton socks will not be sufficient. Make sure you either wear wool socks, some sort of blended material that is warmer than cotton, and/or layer your socks, cotton sock first. Foot warmers can help.

Insulate your pants. If you will be sweating, this bottom layer needs to be synthetic in order to not hold moisture the way cotton does. However, if your activity includes something a bit more leisurely such as one of the Nature Therapy hikes, this layer material does not matter. I often wear two pairs of leggings on top of each other, or leggings under a pair of pants, which works quite well.

For tops, once again depending on if you plan to work up a sweat. On the Nature Therapy hikes, it will be sufficient to wear one layer close to your body, a second long sleeve shirt for insulation, either a second long sleeve shirt over that, or a very warm top such as a wool sweater. Sweatshirts are not as warm as wool sweaters, so keep that in mind if that is one of your layers maybe have extra.

And then of course a winter jacket that is insulated.

And lastly a winter hat goes a long way since we lose most of our body heat out of our heads! Gloves are also very helpful! I often bring hand and foot warmers to give out, but gloves are definitely key to stay warm in this type of weather!

Now you are ready to be prepared and comfortable for a Nature Therapy session. See you out there!
